Luc Pieters is professor in Pharmacognosy and Natural Product Chemistry at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Antwerp, Belgium. He is head of the research group “Natural Products & Food Research and Analysis” (NatuRA) (https://www.uantwerpen.be/natura). His main research interests are the phytochemical characterization of plant extracts used in traditional medicine, their pharmacological evaluation, and the isolation and identification of their active constituents. From 2007 until 2015 he was the Editor-in-Chief of Planta Medica – Journal of Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research.
Maria Halabalaki, is Assistant Professor in Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2015, she was awarded with Egon Stahl in silver, a medal, a document and a monetary prize for recognizing and promoting young scientists working in the field of Pharmacognosy (Pharmaceutical Biology) and Analytical Phytochemistry. Her main scientific interests involve isolation and characterization of natural products, analytics, quality control and metabolic profiling approaches.
Wolfgang Kreis is Professor in Pharmaceutical Biology at the Department of Biology, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany https://www.pharmbio.nat.uni-erlangen.de/English/staff/kreis.shtml. His main research interest is the biosynthesis of natural products, especially with regard to the relaxed substrate specificity of many enzymes involved in natural product biosynthesis and more generally the impact of enzyme promiscuity on the evolution of metabolic pathways.
Nadine Kretschmer is a post-doc at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacognosy, University of Graz, Graz, Austria. She is leading the research group „Cytotoxicity of plant extracts and natural products“. Her main interests are activity-guided isolation of natural products, natural products with anti-cancer activity and elucidation of pharmacological modes of action.
Jennifer Munkert is currently group leader and scientific researcher at the Division of Pharmaceutical Biology, at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg. She specialized in biosynthesis of secondary metabolites with resarch interersts on plant natural products and enzymes of natural product biosynthesis as well as on natural product chemistry and bioactivity of SNAPs.
