The Ketene-Surrogate Coupling: Catalytic Conversion of Aryl Iodides into Aryl Ketenes through Ynol Ethers

The group of Professor Joseph Ready at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, USA) developed a ketene-surrogate coupling that is very useful for the synthesis of the ArCH2(CO) structural motif, present in many natural and bioactive molecules. In addition to providing the desired aryl benzyl ketones, the ketone-surrogate coupling also shortens the synthesis of arylacetic acid derivatitves.
