Fluorescent peptides are essential probes in biomedical research for studying and visualizing a wide array of biological processes. Therefore, the design and synthesis of fluorescent amino acids represent a vibrant area of organic chemistry. Recently, the group of Professor Michael Gütschow from the University of Bonn (Germany) has reported the synthesis of a novel class of fluorescently labeled amino acids incorporating different fluorophores studying also their spectroscopic properties.

Professor Gütschow said: “Fluorescently labeled amino acids, addressing the blue-to-green region of the visible light spectrum are useful building blocks for the synthetic assembly of biologically active, fluorescent compounds.”
