Science of Synthesis Knowledge Updates 2014

44 Updated, revised and new contributions were published in 2014 as part of the Science of Synthesis Knowledge Updates. Highlights include:

  • An update of the organometallic complexes of iron and ferrocenes chapters with a focus on the literature published between 2000 and 2013 – G. R. Stephenson
  • An update of the organometallic complexes of zinc chapter summarizing and discussing the main contributions to zinc-catalyzed organic synthesis – X.-F. Wu
  • An entirely new chapter on thioaldehyde and thioketone S-sulfides (thiosulfines) overviewing methods for their in situ generation as well as their application – G. Mlostoń and H. Heimgartner
  • An entirely new chapter on five–five-fused hetarenes with one heteroatom in each ring (heteropentalenes). This covers a wide variety of important fused pyrroles, furans, and thiophenes and also includes examples of more unusual selenium and tellurium systems. – S. P. Stanforth
  • An update on carbon dioxide, carbonyl sulfide, carbon disulfide, isocyanates, isothiocyanates, carbodiimides, and their selenium, tellurium, and phosphorus analogues. This update has a particular focus on the use of supercritical carbon dioxide as a reaction medium for organic synthesis. – S. Braverman and M. Cherkinsky
  • A new chapter on the synthesis and application of N-heterocyclic carbene borane complexes, a novel type of compound that has received much interest in recent years. – A.-L. Vallet and E. Lacôte
  • A completely revised chapter on benzo[b]furans incorporating both traditional and new methods for the synthesis of this important class of compounds. – H Kwiecień
