N-Hydroxyimides are very important compounds in organic chemistry and have been used for a number of applications, including peptide synthesis as well as radical and electrocatalytic reactions. Recently, the group of Professor Jitendra D. Belani from Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, USA) reported a novel approach to the title compounds, based on an intermolecular palladium-catalyzed allylic O-alkylation of N-hydroxysuccinimides and -phthalimides with allyl arenes in open air.
Professor Belani said: “Our group has successfully examined N-hydroxyimides as nucleophiles in a palladium-catalyzed allylic substitution via C–H activation.”
