Dwarfism leads to an early onset of osteoarthritis of the joints of the lower limb. Due to bone deformities, arthroplasty is challenging. The incidence of implant-associated complications is higher compared to the normal population and often ends up with multiple revision arthroplasties. We report the first case in the literature of a 48-year-old patient with dwarfism who required implantation of a custom-made total femoral replacement due to aseptic stem loosening and a concomitant valgus gonar...

Large bone defects or complex pseudarthrosis represent an interdisciplinary challenge. Established surgical procedures include autogenous cancellous bone graft, the Masquelet technique or bone transfer via segment transport as well as free microvascular bone transplantation. However, the successful use of all these techniques requires a specialized center with great interdisciplinary expertise. In the following case series we describe the technique of free fibula transplantation and additional a...

Introduction The choice of therapy for fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) is largely determined by the diagnosed fracture morphology. It is now unclear whether the change in diagnostic options – sensitive detection of fracture oedema in the sacrum using MRI and dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) – has an impact on the therapeutic consequences. The aim of this retrospective study was therefore to evaluate the change in the diagnostics used and the resulting therapy regimen in our patient ...

Purpose In spite of consistent improvement in operative methods for total knee arthroplasty, individual motor deficits may lead to a lower outcome. The preoperative classification in individual motoric capacity may get more significance for the future. Complementary to established questionnaires and clinical tests, this pilot study should demonstrate that it is possible to generate a preoperative motor score using a force platform measurement (KMP). Compared to questionnaires the new score repres...

Background The suprascapular nerve can be compromised as a result of a compression syndrome in different locations. A (proximal) compression within the scapular notch can lead to dorsal shoulder pain and simultaneous weakness of the infraspinatus and supraspinatus muscles. By transection of the lig. transversum this compression syndrome can be treated. By means of a systematic review, the present work analyzes the motor recovery potential after arthroscopic decompression.

Botulinumtoxin bei chronischer Epicondylitis humeroradialis

Lateral epicondylitis is a common disease in orthopaedic practice. Although the majority of cases do not become chronic, patients who do not respond to the initial treatment may suffer from pain in the long term and effective treatment is challenging. The off-label use of botulinum toxin is one of the common potential indications for the substance in orthopaedics and traumatology. In a literature review of 2000 – 2019, eight EBM ≥ level 3 studies evaluating the use of botulinum toxin in lateral ...
