PET tracers based on the 68Ga nuclide are used in clinical practice for the diagnosis of different cancers, such as neuroendocrine and prostate. The bifunctional complexing agent N,N′-bis[2-hydroxy-5-(carboxyethyl)benzyl] ethylenediamine-N,N′-diacetic acid (HBED-CC) is of particular interest as it is used in tracers such as 68Ga-HBED-PSMA which is currently regarded as the most efficient PET tracer for the detection of prostate cancer. Recently, Dr. Ata Makarem and collaborators at the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg (Germany) reported a new convenient way to synthesize HBED-CC-tris(tert-butyl ester).
